7 Ways To Select a Flattering wedding dress Style

Choosing the right style of dress for your wedding isn't easy. Still, understanding the basics can help a lot. Here are some tips using the most popular dress styles.

  1. 1
Give yourself plenty of time. This is not a choice to leave to the last minute.
  2. 2
Determine your body shape. Do you have an hourglass figure, with similar bust and hip measurements and a defined waist? Do you have a large bust, but small hips (V-shaped), or a small bust and shoulders, but wide hips (A-shaped)? Are you tall with wide shoulders, but a less defined waist (H-shaped)? Or are you petite with a more boyish frame?
  3. 3
Decide which feature you want to highlight. If you have a small bust, but wide hips, and you want to "even out" your figure, you need a dress that will make your bust seem bigger, for example, while drawing attention away from your hips.
  4. 4
Consider the empire dress. This style with a empire waist line at the bottom of the bust and a dropping skirt will help to make the brides look taller. Such a style is great for brides with a small bust, especially if you don't have a waspy waist.
  5. 5
Check out the mermaid style if you are curvy. It will accentuate your figure nicely. However, perfect wedding dresses of such a style are only recommendable for those that have the hour glass body type. It is usually tightly fitted and might cause you to feel uncomfortable if you have to suck in your stomach throughout the wedding.
  6. 6
If you are unsure, try an A-line dress. This style is the most popular in wedding and prom dresses because it tends to flatter all body types. This style is fitted down the waist line and then falls free from there. The bodice gives a lift to the bust while shaping the waist. Many brides enjoy the ball gown style skirt, as it creates a princess-like feeling.
  7. 7
Try on different types of dresses, even if you don't necessarily like their look on the hanger. They do tend to look different on your body, and you might be surprised. If you are planning to order a dress online, it is still a good idea to go to a bridal store and try on the different styles before you order.
